SEVEN DAYS/SIX NIGHTS or FOUR DAYS/THREE NIGHTS
The 4-passenger Saraphina is a traditional Dutch barge built in 1924 converted into a charming hotel barge with a contemporary welcoming interior. During your stay, you'll not only enjoy personal service from its owners as hosts by Finnegan and Emily who will wine & dine you while you relax and take in some of the most beautiful and historic places along the Canal du Midi. Captain Finnegan carefully and tastefully designed the rustic barge to ensure that all guests enjoy a comfortable stay. Besides a lovely deck lounge, there are two cabins that sleep four, both of which include an ensuite bathroom with shower. The original 1924 aft cabin kept its charming original features and has a fixed queen bed while the second cabin offers either twin beds or a queen bed.
Saraphina is a full board charter cruise for up to 4 passengers for 5 or 6 nights, including all lunches at selected restaurants on shore and dinners on board. We will adapt dinners on board to your food preferences and dietary needs, using local and seasonal produce. Self-catered charters (pilot and hostess included) are also available in April, July, August and October with all meals and excursions on your own.
The Saraphina cruises between Portiragnes-Plage near the Mediterranean and the majestic medieval city of Carcassonne. To ensure that you make the most of your stay, we split days between exploring the surrounding areas and cruising. While cruising, you are free to unwind as you wish: watch the lovely landscapes, the canal’s inhabitants, or walk, jog and cycle along the tow path. Should you wish, you can even try your hand at steering the barge from the covered wheelhouse, which has panoramic windows and comfortable seating.
Following a delicious breakfast, your personal tour guide will pick you up to explore the local area and to enjoy lunch as a local restaurant. We can tailor all itineraries to accommodate specific sites of interests — such as wineries and museums — and include visits to: the historic streets of Pezenas and the Cistercian Abbey of Fontroide; the towns of Beziers and Narbonne; the medieval Cathar village of Minerve and the medieval city of Carcassonne.
Finnegan grew up in Holland close to Amsterdam. His love of sailing and boating was apparent from a very young age, and has for his whole life become more than a passion, almost an obsession.
Emily, from Manchester, started her journey into hospitality at the age of 19 in the French Alps working in luxury ski chalets. Discovering Hotel barging a few years later Emily fell in love with the French Waterways and Finnegan. Together they bring 27 years of barging experience to Saraphina to make your stay aboard memorable.
Building a boat from scratch was Finnegan's lifelong dream. As he bought the Saraphina she was just an empty shell allowing him to completely design and build the boat himself, he couldn't be prouder of the result.
Whilst Finnegan navigates The Saraphina along the beautiful Canal du Midi, Emily will be preparing homemade delicious delights in the open kitchen. Priding themselves on sourcing the best local ingredients the region has to offer and using only the eggs from their own free range much loved chickens.
